These various committees of the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce are chaired by Board members and presently include:
Business After Hours Committee

Duties: To set a schedule of events (eight Business After/Before Hours planned for 2008) and set a format for future activities. The BAHs event is traditionally scheduled for the third Tuesday of the month (September through May) from 5:00 - 7:00PM at local Chamber Member businesses.
Annual Projects: Home & Garden Expo, “Top of WV Showcase,” “Toys for Tots” Toy Drive, and the Christmas Open House.

Education Committee

Duties: To work with Chamber Member businesses on issues affecting the business climate by addressing the educational needs of all members. Provide the business community with the opportunity to educate their employees. Enhance the quality of educational services available in the community.
Annual Projects: Leadership Weirton (October to May), Youth Leadership Weirton (September to May), High School Business Symposium (April), and Educational Seminars as needed.
Meetings: Committee members meet the first Wednesday of every other month at the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce in the Conference Room at 8:30AM. Finance Committee

Duties: To provide fiscal support and ensure sound financial conditions of Chamber resources. To develop a Board-approved annual operating budget, produce Monthly Financial Reports, and to work with the Executive Committee to develop a long-term strategy for maintaining adequate funding.
Government Affairs Committee

Duties: To monitor local, state, and federal government. To identify pertinent issues, lobby on the Chamber’s behalf, and work with elected officials to advocate the interests of the business community.
Annual Projects: Conduct “Meet the Candidate” Forums, organize Voter Registration Opportunities, sponsor Legislative trips to Charleston, and publish and distribute a directory of elected officials.

Membership Committee

Duties: To effectively communicate and market services to the business community which will increase new membership and retain current members. Develop new member services and visit potential member businesses.
Projects: Annual Business Plan; Semi-Annual Quality of Life Book, “Northern Panhandle Life”; Annual Membership Directory and/or Membership Drive; Prospective Member Packages; Information Sources - the “Monday Memo” and The Town Crier; New Member Breakfasts and Focus Group Luncheons; and the Grand Opening Team/Chamber Ambassadors.

Retail Merchants Committee

Duties: To market shopping in Weirton, highlighting local retail businesses encouraging consumers to contribute to a healthy local economy. To work with local media to obtain discount advertising rates for Chamber Members. Liaison with the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) on packaging and promoting Weirton.
Annual Projects: “Discover Weirton” Welcome Bags and the annual “Shop Your Hometown” Advertising/Image Campaign.

Special Projects Committee

Duties: To develop programs strengthening area pride and providing quality activities and events for Chamber Members, community residents, and visitors.
Annual Projects: Christmas Season Activities (City Christmas Lights Storage & Upkeep, the Weirton Christmas Parade, and the Salvation Army “Angel Tree” Toy Project), Co-Sponsor for the Home & Garden Expo, “Ladies’ Day at the Chamber,” and the Annual Banquet and Membership Meeting.
