After over a year of extensive renovations to nearly every part of the building, the Weirton Plaza Theatre re-opened on March 17, 2017.  Owner, Doug Jackson, says he never thought he would ever own a movie theatre, but he knew that the residents of Weirton needed it as part of the community.  “This theatre helps hold our community together and gives people a home town alternative to driving somewhere else,” says Jackson. “With the surrounding restaurants, this helps with a complete dinner and movie concept.” He funds three charities and has nine scholarship students each year.  Those students also work at the theatre and will be present on opening night hosting the big evening.

The theatre has approximately 200 seats that recline and rock, helping to add a relaxing movie-going atmosphere.  The theatre held a Business After Hours on opening night and members got the chance to see the world premiere of Disney’s Beauty & the Beast. In addition to Beauty & the Beast, the theatre’s first movies include Fast & Furious 8, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales, Cars 3, and Spiderman Homecoming.
